Positive, Patience, and Perseverance

Regardless of where you come from—recently finished high school, looking to make a change from another industry, returning to the workforce after some time away, or newly settled in the province or country—keep in mind that searching for work takes time (sometimes lots of it), and it can be challenging and stressful. This is particularly the case when you need to find a job quickly and/or if you are trying to learn English as a second language at the same time or have complicated family responsibilities.

It’s important to stay positive and try to avoid becoming discouraged

Depending on the conditions of the job market and the industry, it is not unusual for it to take a few months, even a year, to find a job. It is also completely normal to hear more than one “no” (even lots of them) before getting a “yes.”

The length of time it takes is different for everyone. Each person has a different background, set of experiences, education and training, skills, and interests.
