In addition to ensuring your physical safety, employers are responsible for providing an environment that is safe from bullying, physical, and non-physical violence.

This video explores the core issues of lateral violence explored within a First Nations perspective.
Learning Activity 2: Workplace bullying and lateral violence
Workplace bullying or lateral violence can be factors in safety at any company community any jobsite.
Instructions
- Consider your own experience with these two issues and answer the following question:
- Have you witnessed, participated in, or been affected by either of these behaviors?
- Break into small groups and discuss 2-3 strategies for dealing with or managing these complicated situations
Learning Activity 3: Holding a Safety Meeting
In this activity, you will work with other students to hold a safety meeting and complete a Safety Meeting and Hazard Checklist. Use the Checklist form in Appendix A.
Instructions
- Watch videos 1, 2, and 3 and note how your instructor models how to lead a safety meeting.
- Divide into small groups and appoint one person to be the supervisor; the others can be workers.
- Take turns being the supervisor and leading the meeting, using the Safety Meeting and Hazard Checklist form in Appendix A.
Learning Activity 4: Completing a Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
This activity will help you to become familiar with conducting safety assessments at work sites.
Instructions
- Work in small groups.
- Identify an area of the building where your training is taking place and assess it for hazards.
- Write up your group’s assessment using the JSA form in Appendix A.
- Discuss your findings as a class.
