The downstream sector of the natural gas industry is the one that is closest to everyday consumers. It is here where natural gas is finally rendered usable and distributed for commercial, industrial, and consumer use.

In British Columbia, the downstream sector focuses primarily on two areas of activity:

  • Gas Refining—processing natural gas and natural gas liquids into a variety of other products which are then sold and distributed
  • Distribution and marketing to customers.

This module looks at each area of activity in detail.

Learning Activity 1:
What Do You Know About the Processes Taking Place in the Downstream Sector?

  2. Be as clear and as detailed as you can about:
    • What kind of processes are used at this stage?
    • What types of jobs are in this sector?
  3. Once you are finished writing, put your paper somewhere safe; you will need it again later in this module.
